Fluke Insulation Tester, 1000V Maximum Test Voltage, 2000mΩ Insulation Testing Resistance - FLUKE 1503

This insulation tester is a compact, battery-powered handheld instrument designed for residential and commercial electrical insulation and continuity diagnostics. It detects live circuits before initiating tests and displays readings on a large backlit LCD for use in varied lighting. The unit accepts two selectable test voltages and includes accessories to simplify repetitive measurements.

Features & Benefits

• Insulation range 0.01MΩ–2000MΩ for wide diagnostic coverage
• Selectable test voltages 500V and 1000V for adaptable testing
• Earth-bond continuity with 200mA short-circuit current for true-ohms checks
• Live-circuit inhibit above 30V to prevent unsafe test initiation
• Auto-discharge of capacitive voltage for enhanced user protection
• Runs on four AA cells enabling extended field use

Applications

• Suitable for installation insulation checks on domestic wiring
• Ideal for maintenance testing of commercial electrical systems
• Used for earth-bond verification on earthing installations
• Can be used for troubleshooting insulation deterioration in machinery
• Suitable for repetitive testing tasks with a remote probe attachment

How is capacitive charge handled after a test?

The instrument discharges capacitive voltage automatically, typically in under 0.5s for capacitors ≤1μF, reducing residual charge risk.

What voltage and frequency ranges can the voltage measurement cover?

It measures AC and DC voltages from 0.1V up to 600.0V with 0.1V resolution and input impedance approximately 3MΩ.

What protections exist against excessive Terminal voltage?

Maximum voltage applied to any Terminal is limited to 600V rms or DC and overload protection is provided for voltage and resistance ranges.

What environmental conditions permit operation?

The unit operates between -20°C and 55°C with specified humidity limits across temperature bands and meets shock and vibration criteria for field use.
