A work jacket or coat is an item of clothing worn on the upper body. The garment is typically waist or mid length with sleeves that fastens up at the front with a zip or buttons. Workwear coats and jackets are designed to keep you warm and dry to protect you from the elements especially if you work outdoors. Jackets also provide protection in environments where PPE (personal protection equipment) is a requirement.

Work Jacket Types

There are many types and style of work jackets or coats available in different sizes, materials, and colours. They can be hooded, quilted, windproof, showerproof, or waterproof. The environment and application in which the outerwear is used can influence your choice. The two main categories are:

• General work coats and softshell jackets are used at work to provide extra warmth in cooler or wetter weather conditions. The types of jackets available range from thinner soft-shell jackets, fleeces, and lightweight waterproof jackets for milder conditions.
• Heavy duty style for more extreme environments. These jackets include thicker padded winter jackets, bomber jackets, hooded jackets, waterproof and windbreaker jackets with fixed or adjustable hoods.
