Scrapers are hand tools used to remove a wide range of materials from various surfaces. Examples include adhesives, sealants and fillers, paint and decorative coverings including wallpaper or adhesive vinyl etc. They are also commonly used as floor scrapers for removing dirt and other unwanted debris.

Designed to aid the removal of unwanted or excess debris, scraping tools typically feature a handle with a metal or plastic scraping blade to allow a precise amount of pressure to be applied when removing material to limit damage to the part or surface being worked on. Found in most DIY or decorating toolkits, scraping tools can also be used to create a smooth finish during preparation for finishes such as painting or wallpapering.

As well as removing more stubborn materials like sealants and fillers, scraping tools can also be used to flatten down and push filler compounds or sealers into voids to create an even and level surface for final finishing, such as painting, plastering or papering.

We have a broad selection of scraping tools available from some of the industry's leading brands, including Vikan, Facom, Bahco and RS PRO.

What types of scraping tools are there?

    • Paint scrapers feature a robust and wide metal head which is designed to remove paint and wallpaper. Filler knives are similar to paint scrapers, but they are more flexible so that they can push material into and around crevices and outcrops, which makes them ideal for working with plastering and filler compounds.
    • Razor blade scrapers come with a metal blade edge, which is often replaceable. The razor blades are very sharp and suitable for removing high bond materials such as glues, adhesives, paints and putty. Blades are often retractable or feature a removable cover for safety when handling and storing the tool. Plastic blade scrapers are similar to razor blade scrapers, but they use plastic blades in order to be safer for the user and better for use on delicate surfaces.
    • Floor scrapers are ideal for removing and clearing material and debris from the floor due to their much wider blade face along with the ability to be mounted to a longer robust pole such as that of a sweeping brush. This enables you to use the scraper whilst remaining standing removing the need to crawl around and also proving extra leverage on the scraper head for easier scraping.
