How Clamping Levers Work

When the user lifts or pulls the handle, the internal serrated teeth disengage, allowing the handle to swivel freely to any angular position around the stud. The threaded stud remains stationary throughout this motion, preserving the thread engagement in the workpiece or machine component.

Releasing the handle re-engages the serrated drive, locking the handle in its new position. It also allows the user to apply further manual torque by pushing the handle through its new arc. This ratchet-style action allows clamping pressure to be built incrementally, even in confined spaces where a full 360-degree swing is not available.
