ebm-papst 4314 Series Comapct DC Axial Fans with Tachometer Output
What is a DC axial fan?
An axial fan is a device that creates airflow by using a motor to rotate blades housed within in a square or round frame. The rotating fan blades draw air into the fan and expel the flow in the same direction across a surface to cool it. Axial fans are a vital component ensuring the smooth operation of machinery and electronic equipment. Keeping equipment cool is Crucial as overheating can lead to serious complications including premature deterioration of parts, shorter life spans and sometimes, complete failure.
Ebm-papst 4314 Series Compact DC Axial Fans with Tachometer Output
From ebm-papst, the 4314 series of high performance ball bearing fans with a tachometer output. Offering a cost effective cooling solution without sacrificing on quality or reliability. The compact DC axial fans are expertly designed supporting excellent efficiency long service life and smooth operation. With a robustly constructed PBT housing and PA impeller, the 4314 series fans are an ideal for multitude of cooling applications.
Tachometer outputs
Three wire fans or Tacho fans have an integrated electronic tachometer. The red and black wires are for the power supply to the fan. The third coloured wire (often yellow or white) is connected directly to the output of the hall sensor. A pulsed output is generated which is used to monitor the speed of the fan. This feature is useful in applications such as PCs, laptops and data equipment.

O&As
How is the fan mounted?
The 4314 series of DC axial fans have 4 x 4.3 mm holes in each outside corner of the frame.
How is the fan connected?
The 4314 series of DC axial fans are connected via 310 mm 22 AWG wires. The third coloured wire is for the tachometer output. (Usually yellow or white)
Are there any accessories available?
Finger guards are available separately, see part numbers 826-1354 and 826-1357. Finger guards are designed to protect contact with rotating parts and the ingress of foreign particles.

Applications
Compact DC axial fans are utilised across all areas of industry where the cooling of equipment and electronics is essential. Some of the most common used for DC fans are;
• Electrical cabinets and Enclosures – Installed into cabinets and enclosures where critical electronic equipment is housed. Keeping components cool is essential in extending service life and preventing premature failure.
• Laptops and Computer towers – Compact DC fans are ideal for incorporating into computers and hardware due to their small frame size and depth.
• Server racks – Axial fans are used to keep hubs, routers and patch panels cool.
