Light fittings are the focal point of any room. They're also a great way to express your style and add a decorative touch to your home. There's something for everyone, from wall and ceiling to chandeliers, pendant lighting, and floor lights.

If you're looking for something more modern or contemporary, why not check out our selection of designer wall lights? We have everything from minimalist chrome wall lamps to futuristic LED designs in various colors and styles to suit any taste.

Downlighters are the most common type of luminaire used in downlights. They provide illumination directly downwards and are, therefore, ideal for use in kitchens and bathrooms. Downlighters are available in various sizes and styles, from simple chrome fittings to designer designs incorporating glass shades with color finishes.

The light source can be either a fluorescent tube or an LED strip. Fluorescent tubes are more energy efficient than LEDs and don't need to be changed often (although they have a shorter lifespan). However, LEDs produce more light than fluorescents, so you may not need as many downlighters for the same illumination amount if you use LED lights instead of fluorescents.

Downlights are typically used in lighting applications where it is desirable to direct light down onto the floor or area. Examples include kitchen worktops and bathroom vanity areas.

What types of light fittings are available?

Light fittings are the hardware that connects a light bulb to an electrical supply. They come in a wide range of styles, sizes, and materials. The most common light fittings are:

    • Smart lights - Smart lights are the latest trend in home decorating. These lights have sensors that detect movement in the room, so they can turn on automatically when someone enters and off when they leave. This helps save energy by reducing unnecessary lighting when no one is around.
    • Machine inspection lights - used in factories to illuminate work areas, machinery, and equipment
    • Downlights/ Down Lighters - used indoors to provide general lighting, they can be recessed into ceilings or walls or surface mounted on ceilings or walls.
    • Low and High Bay - used indoors for large areas such as warehouses, factories, and other industrial facilities. These systems usually consist of rows of lamps mounted on tall poles or towers called bays.
    • Batten lights - used outdoors for floodlighting large areas such as parking lots, sports fields, or airport runways. These systems usually consist of rows of lamps mounted on tall poles called battens.
    • Floodlights - used outdoors for floodlighting specific areas such as buildings and monuments
    • Emergency lighting - used indoors for emergency exit signs and exit routes in case of fire or other emergencies.
    • Hazardous area lights - used indoors or outdoors in hazardous areas where flammable gases may be present (e.g., steel mills)
