What is it? N Connector or N Type Connector is an RF (Radio Frequency) mid-sized weatherproof connector with screw coupling mechanism utilising a 5/8-24 UNEF (Unified Extra Fine) thread. N type connectors are primarily used to join coaxial cables together. Early connectors were designed to carry signals at frequencies up to 1 GHz. Modern day connectors can operate at frequencies up to 11 GHz some even going up to 18 GHz. What does it do? N Type connectors can be terminated on to various flexible and semi-rigid coaxial cables. They allow the transmission of radio frequencies from base stations, transmitters and receivers to their antennas. The robust design makes them useful in harsh environments that require good vibration resistance and weatherproofing. Applications Versatile N type coaxial cable connectors can be used in several applications such as antennas, base stations, radar systems, instrumentation, satellite and broadcast. Types N type connectors are available as male (plugs) or female (jacks) with 50 Ω or 75 Ω impedance. Mounting types come in various options including cable, panel, bulkhead and PCB. Different termination methods include crimp, solder and clamp.
