    3/4 Socket Sets

¾ socket sets are tool sets that feature different types and sizes of sockets for a ¾ inch drive. A socket is an attachment that fits onto a socket wrench, ratchet spanner, torque wrench, or another turning tool. It is used in order to tighten or loosen a fastener such as a nut or a bolt by turning it. Sockets and drives can be made from high-quality materials, such as forged metals, for strength and durability. These tools are designed to withstand the high torque needed to loosen or fasten nuts, bolts, and other fasteners.

Many ¾ drive socket sets include sockets of varying sizes, a spanner or shaft with a ¾ inch drive, and an extension bar. The different components will be housed in a case, tool wrap, or other storage containers. Socket sets are sized in both imperial and metric measurements, with the imperial socket set measurement being the drive size, and the metric measurement being the size of the socket.

The designation ¾ inch indicates that the spanner or shaft included in the set has a driver head of ¾ of an inch. This is an important distinction to make when buying accessories and bits, as only the ¾ inch bits will fit on the head.

Socket sets are a convenient tool set to have on the job because they ensure that you always have the right size socket on hand without having to carry around excess tools. With just one socket set, you can complete an entire job, even if the job calls for tightening or loosening different-sized fasteners.

RS carries many ¾ inch drive socket sets from leading manufacturers. You can browse our selection of Teng socket sets and Facom socket sets, and filter by the number of pieces, socket sizes, and build material.

    3/4 Impact Socket Sets

Impact sockets are one of many types of sockets used to tighten or loosen fastenings, such as nuts or bolts, but are made of materials that can absorb heavy vibrations. Impact sockets are also built to sustain more torque than ordinary drivers and wrenches, especially in use with air guns or other impact tools.

Regular sockets are commonly made from the steel alloy chrome vanadium, though others might be made from or plated with beryllium copper or aluminum bronze. In contrast, impact sockets need to be able to handle heavy vibrations, and are therefore commonly made from the more pliable chrome molybdenum.

¾ inch impact socket sets contain a variety of differently-sized sockets for a ¾ inch drive. ¾ impact socket sets are the most common size of impact socket sets.

What's Included in a 3/4 Drive Socket Set

Most socket sets include the following pieces and accessories, though some simpler sets may only contain a few of each type of piece.

Ratchet Spanner Arm or Drive Shaft- Acts as the tool handle and contains a ¾ inch drive. Some of the different head attachments included in the set (that aren't sockets) are various arm extensions that make it easier to do work in hard to reach places.

Sockets - Head attachments for the spanner arm or drive shaft that facilitate tightening or loosening bolts and nuts when torque is applied. Sockets typically have a hexagonal opening, measured in millimeters (mm), that fits over a nut or bolt. Each ¾ inch drive socket set will contain multiple sockets in different sizes.

Bit Sockets and Bits - Other head attachments that transform the drive shaft into a fastening driver. The bit socket attaches over the drive head and can accept screwdriver bits, turning the spanner into a screwdriver. Sets with bit sockets and bits will typically include both slotted and Phillips head bits of varying sizes.
