Transistor Sockets

Transistor sockets are the slots used to hold transistors (semiconductors) and connect them to PCBs (Printed Circuit Boards). Inside the sockets are multiple brass alloy receptacles with multi-finger contact clips, which reduce assembly and circuit installation times. These clips are usually gold-plated to increase conductivity levels.

Transistor sockets are insulated with thermoplastic materials which make them resistant to high temperatures during soldering operations. The terminals on the sockets are embedded to prevent circuit shortages, which can damage the circuit boards. The contact pins are vibration and impact resistant to keep the transistor securely in place and prevent it from moving around in the transistor socket.

What are transistor sockets used for?

Transistor sockets allow for easy insertion and extraction of transistors which prevent damage to the transistors and thee circuit board. They are used effectively in rugged environments such as industrial and process control industries.

Transistor sockets are typical in the automotive, military, consumer electronics and medical equipment industries.

Types of transistor sockets

Transistor sockets are categorised by a number of variables, for instance contact materials, mounting styles, insulator materials and collector finishes to meet the requirements of any semiconductor application.
