VFDs
VFD (Variable Frequency Drives} control the speed of a motor, but they do so by changing the voltage and frequency and can thus only be used with AC motors. VFDs can vary speed control at start-up, during the run, and at motor stop. VFDs are mainly used in three different kinds of systems, which are AC motor controllers, driver/operator interface, and speed control.

FAQ
Q: What is the difference in VFD (variable frequency drive) and VSD
(variable Speed drive)?
;A: Variable speed drive refers to AC and DC drives whereas the variable frequency drive only applies to AC motors.
